Zambian Spice Trail

 

Day 1 & 02: Upon your arrival at Livingstone Airport you will be met and transferred by road to Sussi & Chuma Spend two nights at Sussi Lodge in a twin bedded tree house. Accommodation is on a full board basis including four scheduled activities. Activities include game-drives in the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park in open 4x4 safari vehicles where you can see Rhinoceros, guided walks and a visit the Zambian side of the Victoria Falls.

Sussi & Chuma is named after David Livingstone’s faithful companions and consist of an intimate lodge and two exclusive houses, both of which are situated to make the most of the amazing views that the sweeping Zambezi River provides. Guest accommodation at consists of 12 luxury tree houses and two 2-bedroomed houses, built into the canopy of majestic ebony trees, which shelter a stunning variety of bird life. Each unit has a private view of the Zambezi and is en-suite with air conditioning, mini bar, mosquito nets, overhead fan & hairdryer. The central lodge building features a raised bar/lounge deck, open air dining area, curio shop, swimming pool and a spa which provide incredible views of the mighty Zambezi. Meals are table d’hote with a wide variety of dishes available, served alfresco, often around a roaring fire in the evening.

Activities offered at the lodge include, game drives in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, where guests can see a variety of game, including white rhino, elephant, buffalo and giraffe. Tours of the incredible Victoria Falls, a World Heritage Site, are a must as they give guests an opportunity to experience one of the 7 great natural wonders of the world. Livingstone’s reputation as the adventure capital of Africa is richly deserved and guests have a wide range of activities on offer, such as, bungi jumping, white water rafting, horse back safaris, elephant back safaris and helicopter flights over Victoria Falls. These activities are at an additional cost, bookings essential.

Day 03 & 04: Road transfer to Livingstone Airport for light aircraft transfer to Lower Zambezi National Park, from here you will be transferred to Kulefu Tented Camp. Spend two nights at Kulefu Tented Camp in a spacious walk-in canvas tent. Accommodation is on a full board basis including four scheduled activities and park fees Activities include professionally guided game-viewing from open 4x4 vehicles, exciting boat and canoe excursions, birdwatching, stargazing, walking safaris, excellent fishing opportunities.

The Lower Zambezi was for many years a forgotten wilderness and because of its remote location, has become a haven for many of Africa’s ‘big game’ species. The park is situated in the Zambezi Valley, opposite Mana Pools National Park, a World Heritage Site. It is bordered by the steep Mukamba Escarpment to the North and the Zambezi River to the South, which concentrates the animals in a fairly narrow riverine corridor, making for excellent game viewing. Kulefu – “the faraway place”, located on a permanent channel of the Zambezi, is shaded by massive Winterthorn Acacias which provide a cool and relaxing location to watch the world go by. The camp offers seven spacious tented chalets with twin or double beds, mosquito nets and en-suite facilities, offering a relaxing view of the mighty Zambezi.

The central lounge and dining area are housed in a magnificent Bedouin style tent which gives a lovely open air feel to the setting and allow guests to feel as though they are part of the surrounding environment. Teak furniture and natural fabrics add an authentic feel to this incredible bush experience as well as providing luxurious comfort. The location is enhanced by a swimming pool right on the river bank as well as a teak deck overlooking the river. An evening campfire forms an integral part of the camp where guests can sit and discuss the events and sightings of the day. Batteries can be charged by generator and lights in the evening are supplied by 220 volt inverter. Traditional paraffin lamps illuminate pathways and tent entrances.

Day 05 & 06: Air transfer by light aircraft to Lusaka International Airport for your onward flight to Mfuwe Airport from where you will be transferred by road to Puku Ridge Tented Camp Spend two nights at Puku Ridge Tented Camp in a luxury safari tent. Accommodation is on a full board basis including four scheduled activities and park fees Activities include a full range of game drives in South Luangwa National Park using open four-wheel-drive vehicles. Game to be seen includes elephant, lion, leopard, wild dog, buffalo and giraffe. Guided walks by a professional guide and an armed national parks scout are also available.

Puku Ridge Camp is situated in the remote, wildlife rich South Luangwa National Park. Named for the Puku antelope that inhabits the Kakumbi Dambo (floodplain), which the camp overlooks, Puku Ridge Camp is built on a hillside, providing stunning vistas of the floodplain and the wildlife that frequents it. The camp is small and intimate and has been constructed to blend in to the local surroundings. Each of the 6 luxury oversized tents has a comfortably furnished sitting area, en-suite facilities with a stunning outdoor shower and a private wooden deck where guests can game view from the privacy of their own rooms. There are a variety of sleeping configurations to suit each guest, with tents having options of two three-quarter beds, double or king size beds. Each tent also has mosquito nets, ceiling fans and hair dryer. Tea and coffee is brought to the rooms each morning by a room attendant.

Day 07: Road transfer back to Mfuwe Airport for your flight to Lusaka Airport.
