Walking Safaris
For
any adventurous adult, a walking safari has to be the ultimate wildlife
experience! We offer a selection of walking safaris throughout Southern
Africa.
Walking and Hiking in Africa, as in any part of the world,
is an adventure! In areas where there are wild creatures, from mosquitoes,
ticks and snakes to hippo and lion, there is inevitably some element of
risk. It is important that clients make themselves aware of the risks
involved on the particular walking safari or trail they have selected,
and are responsible for making their travel plans accordingly. We will
not accept any bookings for clients who are not adequately insured.
Walking Safari at Phinda
Discover the excitement, drama and ancient
secrets of the African wilderness ... on foot! This three night four day
Walking Safari deliver an exceptional interpretive, up close and personal
African experience. Accompanied throughout by armed specialist rangers
and trackers, guests have the opportunity to identify tracks and insects,
birdwatch and learn about habitats and ecology as they walk through the
bushveld. Phinda in the Maputuland region of Kwa-Zulu Natal, features
15 000 hectares of game-rich land. Phinda neigbours the Greater St. Lucia
Wetland Park which is a World Heritage Site - to the east and is
only 30 km due west of the beautiful beaches of the Indian Ocean. Four
tents in a scenic bush setting offer true Africa style. These spacious
en-suite tents feature comfortable beds, hot bucket showers and flush
w.c. Two comfortable chairs are on the veranda under awning.
A
maximum of eight guests can be accommodated on this safari. Four to five
hour morning walks plus pre-sunset short walks and night gamedrive combinations.
Walking ensures a genuine up-close-and-personal experience of the bush.
First aid kits are carried at all times. Reasonable standards of fitness
are a prerequisite but distances covered will depend on sightings. Guests
will be taught the basics of the art of tracking. Tracking of dangerous
animals is avoided, but watching a breeding herd of elephant from a distance,
or tracking a rhino is possible. The emphasis on this walking safari is
on micro-systems, and time is spent observing spiders, ant lions, dung
beetles and other small wonders of nature. This close deep ecology
experience also ensures diverse bird watching.
