Day
05 & 06: Transfer to Cape Town Station in time for Rovos
Rail. For many visitors to
South Africa, there's no finer way to see the country than on
the popular weekly journeys between Cape Town and Pretoria (or
vice versa). From the coast, the 1600 kilometre route follows
an old pioneering trail carved out of the African bushveld, passing
through the
Winelands and climbing up to the interior through the Hex River
Valley.
Highlights of the north and southbound routes include visits to
the historic village of Matjiesfontein, a 100-year old refreshment
stop in the arid Karoo, and Kimberley (city of De Beers), the
diamond boom-town that's home to the Big Hole, the world's largest
man-made
excavation.
Two overnights onboard Rovos Rail on a fully inclusive basis
Day
07: You will be collected on arrival at Rovos Rail Station
and transferred by road to the elegant Illyria House in Pretoria.
Pretoria is the administrative capital of South Africa, with most
of the foreign embassies located here. Enjoy the tranquil and
elegant Illyria House, set in a secure ambassadorial area. .Formerly
open to royalty and dignitaries only, standards at Illyria soar
high. The house itself is a treasure-trove of fine art, seventeenth
century tapestries and antiques from around the World. Each of
its six en-suite double bedrooms is lavishly appointed with crystal
chandeliers, heavy silk bedcovers and sumptuous furnishings. With
only six rooms, exceptional personalised service and attention
to detail is assured. When at Illyria House we recommend that
you dine in - as absolutely anything you desire will be procured
locally and skilfully prepared by Illyria's master chef. You may
choose to dine in the baroque dining room or bathed in candlelight
on your private veranda. Other culinary pleasures include breakfast
or luncheon on the marble patio overlooking the garden, or fresh
coffee served in fine bone china accompanied by glorious cakes
taken in the fountain courtyard. The recently opened Aquarius
Wellness Spa has a fulltime beautician on the premises. Relax
with the various personalised treatments available.
