Kikoti Camp
"The place where life began". Based on a traditional tented

own in Tarangire. The lodge works closely with the local Maasai community
and guests can enjoy traditional Maasai dancing, night game drives,
sundowner trips, walking safaris and all the wildlife of the diverse
Tarangire eco-system.
Flying to the Serengeti is a wonderful way to start this safari. The accommodation here is located in some of the most dense wildlife areas, so there are plenty of opportunities to watch animals directly from your verandah.

N'giresi Village
Living on verdant slopes of Mount Meru, only 7km from Arusha, the inhabitants
of N'giresi are all farmers of the Wa-arusha tribe, agricultural members
of the Maasai. This is a fascinating afternoon, with tea and coffee
at Mzee Loti's farm as well as explanations about the bio-gas, cross-breeding
and soil conservation projects. There is also a chance to wander around
the village, meet the people, visit the school and perhaps climb Lekimana
Hill, with its beautiful views over Arusha and the Masai plains.
Combining a mix of scenic road journeys accompanied by
a knowledgeable driver-guide and flying to Masai Mara, this safari uses
the sophisticated and charming services of Lonrho Hotels. These are
all impressive properties and capture much of Kenya's historic romance.
Day 1 Nairobi
Upon arrival, you are met and transferred to the Norfolk Hotel. Remainder
of the day at leisure.
Overnight at Norfolk Hotel on a bed and breakfast basis.
Norfolk Hotel
The Norfolk has changed little since Kenya's colonial era: timbered
walls are still covered in vines and creepers, the taxi rank with London
cabs queue outside and old mounted photographs that chart the history
of Kenya, gracefully hang from interior walls. The grounds are immaculate
and filled with indigenous plants, artefacts and various old classic
cars. Ceiling fans, cane chairs, plump animal-print cushions and deep
sofas combine with locally sourced woods to create a tranquil ambience
with echoes of the colonial period. The Hibiscus lounge is ideal for
colonial-style afternoon tea and accommodation varies from large opulent
suites to smaller, more intimate rooms, all beautifully furnished. With
a pool, shops and a fitness centre, the Norfolk offers all the comforts
of a modern first class hotel yet combines it with an intriguing sense
of history.
Day 2 Nairobi
After breakfast you depart Nairobi in Fairmont's shared shuttle bus
or shared vehicle and head north, passing near Thika which boasts the
world's third largest pineapple plantation and home to Del Monte, and
Karatina with its colourful market. Soon you'll be at Nyeri, one of
Kenya's major towns and provincial headquarters and then on to the Aberdare
Country Club. Here you'll enjoy a bounteous buffet lunch amidst the
beautiful gardens before you are transferred (around ½ an hour)
to your night's destination at the Ark, a uniquely shaped lodge tucked
away in the Aberdares National Park. Spend the afternoon at leisure.
Overnight at the Ark on a full board basis.
The Ark
Set in the heart of the Aberdare National Park, this unique lodge overlooks
a floodlit waterhole and salt lick that attracts a host of wildlife,
including elephant, rhino, leopard, bushbuck and occasionally an elusive
bongo or giant forest hog. Resembling and named after Noah's Ark, the
Ark comprises of three decks from which numerous balconies and lounges
provide superb vantage points for game viewing. A ground level bunker
also provides excellent photographic opportunities. Comfortable en suite
cabins are fitted with buzzers to announce the arrival of one of the
'big five' at the water hole!
Day 3 Mount Kenya Safari Club
After breakfast drive to Mount Kenya Safari Club for lunch. Rest of
the day at leisure
Overnight at Mount Kenya Safari Club on a full board basis.
Mount Kenya Safari Club
Driving deep into Kikuyu country, far from civilization, this magnificent
resort was built on the slopes of Mount Kenya during the 1950's and
attracted the rich and famous, from Hollywood to British royalty. In
addition to luxurious accommodation, the club offers a heated swimming
pool, golf, tennis, fishing, horse-riding, bowls, croquet, scenic walks
and hundreds of exotic birds that freely roam about the grounds. The
Club still retains a strong sense of history and unlike many hotels,
has not swept this away in favour of the new.
Day 4 Mount Kenya Safari Club - Masai
Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, you are transferred to Nanyuki Airport for your scheduled
flight to the Masai Mara. Flight departs Nanyuki at 10h00 and arrives
into the Masai Mara at 11h30. On arrival you will be met by a guide
from the camp for your first game drive, before arriving at camp for
lunch. Following an afternoon siesta, there is another game drive returning
to the lodge as the sun sets.
Overnight at Mara Safari Club on a full board basis.
Mara Safari Club
Lonrho Hotel's luxurious Mara Safari Club is set in the Ol-Choro Oiroua
Conservation Area, bordering the Masai Mara, at the foot of the Aitong
Hills. Surrounded on three sides by the Mara River, all of the 50 tents
have their own private river frontage, with four-poster beds, veranda,
and electricity, modern en-suite facilities with hot and cold running
water. The main building with lounge, bar and dining room is cantilevered
over the river. Game drives are accompanied by the lodges experienced
driver-guides and are in 4x4 vehicles. At the Club, the pool, al fresco
buffet lunches and nightly activities of Masai dancing, slide shows
and talks on the Mara's ecosystem and Maasai culture, all add up to
create a truly unique experience.
Day 5 Masai Mara National Reserve
Early morning, morning and afternoon game drives.
Overnight at Mara Safari Club on a full board basis.
Day 6 Masai Mara National Reserve -
Nairobi
Following breakfast you return to the airstrip for your scheduled flight
to Nairobi. Flight departs Masai Mara at 11h00 and arrives into Nairobi
at 12h15. On arrival in Nairobi you will be met and transferred to Jomo
Kenyatta airport or City Centre Hotel.

TRANSPORTATION ON SAFARI:
All
safaris begin and end in Arusha. Depending on how and where you arrive,
you will be collected from and returned to either Mount Meru Hotel (for
the Nairobi shuttle bus), Kilimanjaro International Airport, or Arusha
local airport. Clients travelling from Nairobi Airport may arrange private
transport to and from Arusha.
Set date departures normally use specially converted Nissan safari vehicles
with a maximum capacity of 7 passengers; guaranteed window seats and
easy access to the roof hatch for game viewing and photography.
Specially
adapted Land Rovers or Land Cruisers with a maximum of 5 passengers
per vehicle are used on all camping safaris and are available as an
option on any other exclusive vehicle safari. On lodge or camping safaris
clients may choose to have their own exclusive vehicle. There is generally
no charge for this for groups of 4 or more.
All our safaris in Northern Tanzania start and finish in Arusha. Kilimanjaro
International Airport is about 40 miles from Arusha and receives daily
KLM flights from Europe.
Since the KLM flights continue to Dar-es-Salaam, it is possible to arrange an itinerary with arrival into Kilimanjaro and departure from Dar or visa versa. This is particularly useful for those wishing to include a visit to Zanzibar or the Southern reserves into their schedule.
Arusha is a great deal closer to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, than it is to Dar-es-Salaam. The number of airlines and frequency of flights into Nairobi is much greater than those into Dar, and the prices more competitive. For these reasons, 80% of safari visitors to Northern Tanzania fly into Nairobi. We arrange shuttle bus transfers or private transportation for clients from Nairobi to Arusha. For UK residents we can book British Airways flights into Nairobi and out of Dar es Salaam- ideal for a Northern Tanzania Safari combined with a Zanzibar extension. Also, we can book flights on Kenya Airways into and out of Nairobi..
There is an inexpensive shuttle bus running
twice daily between Nairobi and Arusha. The shuttle
bus from Nairobi has one early morning departure (08:00 AM) and one
afternoon departure (14:00). The terminals are the Norfolk, Stanley
and Hilton Hotels in Nairobi and the Mount Meru Hotel in Arusha. The
journey takes at least 3 and 1/2 hours, dependent on road conditions
and subject to formalities at the border crossing at Namanga. Clients
do have the option of arranging private transportation from Nairobi
to Arusha and return at a supplementary charge.
NAIROBI TO ARUSHA FLIGHTS
There is a daily flight available from Nairobi airport to Kilimanjaro
airport.
