Sand Rivers will meet you at the airstrip for your game-drive to

a veranda and en-suite facilities. Accommodation is on a full board
basis including scheduled activities Activities include game-drives
in open 4x4 safari vehicles, guided walks, boating on the Rufiji
river and fishing.
The
Selous Game Reserve stretches across south east Tanzania. The largest
game reserve in Africa, it covers an area of 45,000 square kilometers
of true wilderness. The mighty Rufiji River cuts through the reserve
in its journey to the Indian Ocean and feeds a myriad of lakes and
waterways that provide habitat for a rich and diverse array of animals,
birds, plants and fish. The reserve
is home to over 50 species of large mammals incluing, lion, leopard,
buffalo, rhino and elephant. There are 450 species of bird and over
2,000 plants. It contains the world's largest population of elephant,
buffalo, hippo and crocodile along with one of the last remaining
populations of African Wild Dog. The ecosystems of the reserve (and
particularly around Sand Rivers lodge) are so diverse that the Selous
was designated a World Heritage Site in 1982.
Day 04, 05 & 06: Ruaha National
Park
After
breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to
Ruaha Airstrip where a representative from Jongomero Camp will meet
you for your game-drive to camp.
Three overnights at Jongomero Camp in a tent under thatch with a
veranda and en-suite facilities. Accommodation is on a full board
basis including scheduled activities. Activities include guided
walks, game-drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles and river and fishing
trips by boat
For anyone seeking a true African
wilderness experience, a visit to Ruaha National Park is essential.
Although the second largest in Tanzania, the reserve is perhaps
the least well-known and yet to connoisseurs it is without doubt
one of the most spectacular in Africa. Covering a conservation area
of 10,300 square kilometers in the south-west of the country, Ruaha
sprawls within and along the Great Rift Valley, covering a unique
transition zone where the Eastern and Southern species of both fauna
and flora meet against a dramatic topographical backdrop. This is
also one of the few Tanzanian parks where sightings of the rarer
antelope, such as the sable, the roan and both lesser & greater
kudu, are a probability rather than a possibility. The proliferation
of plains game in the park also ensures that the larger predators
- leopard and large prides of lion - are unusually active. The bird
life, too, is unparalleled with some 450 species recorded
