FOOTSTEPS IN THE MARA

'For some, it is the crossroads in their lives, an emotional rebirth, a lightning of the spirit at the sight of so many animals and so much space'. Governors' opened Kenya's first exclusive safari camp in the early 1970s, and today it still upholds the best-kept traditions. This safari is small and exclusive, where nights are spent very comfortably under canvas and days walking and tracking, all in the company of an excellent guide.

Day 1 Morning depart to the Great Rift Valley. Lunch and an afternoon activity.

Day 2 Morning and afternoon activities.

Day 3 Early morning game activity and transfer to Nairobi for lunch. Fly to the Mara, followed by 3 nights on safari including all game drives and walks. Two of these nights will be spent in a wonderful fly-camp with your own guide. The focus here will be on walking safaris, tracking and enjoying the finer side of the bush.

Day 6 After a morning walk and lunch, you'll fly back to Nairobi and transfer for your onward arrangements.

Governors' provides a 'home from home' service, with all meals and activities included (except at Loldia). The team is very flexible and tries to tailor all activities around its guests. At Loldia, activities include guided boat-rides, walks, horse-rides and trips to Lake Nakuru and Hell's Gate National Parks. In the Mara, game drives are used, however, the emphasis on this safari is walking with an armed guide, tracking and spending time out in the bush.

Walking Safari
As the sun rises over the Masai Mara, varying hues of fiery reds and oranges reflect off the grassy plains, as you slowly clamber up a granite outcrop with your guide. From here, a cacophony of mumbling grunts are carried by the wind. Then looking out, you see a countryside dotted with bead-like objects that slowly move closer. Why walk further today, when the earth's greatest spectacle, the migration, will soon surround this kopje, bringing with it the mayhem of yet another day in the Mara.

WE OFFER THESE SCHEDULED SAFARIS WITH FIXED DEPARTURE DAYS EACH WEEK ON A "SEAT IN VEHICLE" BASIS
These offer a good value option, particularly for singles and couples. Departures are guaranteed for just two clients, you may be sharing a vehicle with up to 5 others plus an English speaking driver / guide. Everyone has a comfortable window seat in the special safari minibus.

CUSTOM SAFARIS
Any safari itinerary can be taken as a custom safari with an exclusive vehicle- for two clients this will cost around 20% extra per person. If there are three of you travelling together we can offer you an exclusive vehicle at about the same per person cost as "seat in vehicle" safari, and for groups of four or more we can actually provide a custom safari with exclusive vehicle at less than per person brochure prices for the equivalent itinerary.

If you do have a custom safari then you can choose any start day and time and the itinerary becomes completely flexible. We will be pleased to help you work out a practical routing to see the places you want to visit.

FLYING SAFARIS
For clients who are short of time or simply want to avoid the long road transfers to parks we can provide flying safaris to several single parks or combinations of parks. These safaris use the top permanent tented camps and lodges, and the camp or lodge transport will collect you at the airstrips and provide your game drives and other excursions for the duration of your stay.

SAFARI AND BEACH
We can offer a visit to the Mombasa beach as an extension to any safari, and it does not take much longer or cost more to get to the fascinating island of Zanzibar off the coast of Tanzania.

KENYA and TANZANIA COMBINATIONS
With frequent inexpensive shuttle bus connections between Nairobi and Arusha and daily flights available it is easy to see something of both Kenya and Northern Tanzania in the same itinerary. Since there is a much greater selection of flights into Nairobi airport than into Kilimanjaro airport in Northern Tanzania - and often at lower prices- these combination safaris have become increasingly popular.

Christmas and New Year
At this stage availability over the Christmas/New Year holiday period is also reasonable, however this holiday season is always very popular and books up far in advance. The airlines charge peak season prices, but in spite of this, flights are booked to capacity and seats become increasingly scarce towards the end of the year.

The safari lodges and camps make supplementary charges during this period, but do provide special Christmas and New Year meals and parties etc.

Zanzibar, too, is enormously busy at this time of year with very little availability at the beach resorts around Christmas and the early part of the New Year.

Clients whose ability to travel is limited by the Christmas/New Year holidays should book as soon as possible
