Inquisitive Kids

This 2+ week tour is suitable for children over 6 with lots of interest for enquiring young minds. It combines time relaxing with more adventurous pursuits - visiting a Zulu cultural village, canoeing in the Kosi Lake system, game-viewing and exploring the Natal Battlefields. Ideal for the Northern Hemisphere Summer Holidays.

Day 1 : Arrive Cape Town, 4 nights, Radisson Hotel, Bed & Breakfast
You will be met and transferred to the Radisson Hotel near the Waterfront. Your rental car will be delivered to you at the hotel later the same day. The Radisson is a smart five star hotel right on the water’s edge about ten minutes walk from the centre of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfont development. The two bedroom suites are, of course, perfect for families or a party of two couples. From your base here, not too far from the city centre and the Waterfront, you will be able to explore both the city centre and further afield.

Day 5 : Flight to Durban, 3 nights, Hluhluwe River Lodge, Dinner, Bed & Breakfast
Today you return your car to the airport and fly to Durban and then drive north to Zululand for your three-night stay in the Hluhluwe River Lodge. Hluhluwe River Lodge overlooks the spectacular Hluhluwe flood plain and False Bay. It is within easy reach of Hluhluwe-Umfolozi, Mkuze and Ndumo Game Reserves. Game Drives are done in an open land rover in the Hluhluwe Park and boat trips can be taken on the False Bay Lake. Each chalet also has its own wooden viewing deck from where guests can enjoy the surrounding bush. Facilities include a curio-shop, library, an outside dining boma and a secluded swimming pool.

Day 8 : 3 nights, Kosi Forest Lodge, Coastal Maputaland, Full Board & Activities
Today you drive to the Kosi Forest Lodge for a three-night stay. Kosi Forest Lodge has lovely different setting amongst the serene Kosi lake system so its activities are split between enjoying guided canoeing on the tranquil lakes, nature walks in the ancient raffia forest with iLala palm wine-tasting, and beach activities such as snorkelling, swimming and examining the ancient Tonga fish traps at the magnificent Kosi river mouth. Turtle tracking is again a highlight for summer visitors. A great place to learn about the unique cultural and economic traditions of the Tonga people.

Day 11 : 2 nights, AmaKhosi Game Lodge, Maputaland, Full Board and Game Drives
Travel inland to the AmaZulu Private Game Reserve to stay at AmaKhosi Lodge for 2 nights. The six individual and air-conditioned chalets offer great seclusion and comfort with bedroom, separate sitting room with sleeper couch for children, bathroom, separate shower room and loo as well as a large timber deck. AmaKhozi offers Big 5 game viewing amongst other wildlife, bush walks with experienced game rangers

Day 13 : 1 night, Simunye Zulu Village, Dinner, Bed & Breakfast & Cultural Activities
Today you will take a nostalgic trip into the past on horseback or with donkey and cart to one of the most beautiful valleys in Zululand. A true African welcome awaits you on arrival. Jubilant Zulus in full regalia will astound you with their fierce dancing and outstanding voices that reverberate in the magical hills and dips around Simunye. Your candle lit evening will be filled with captivating Zulu tales, delightful entertainment and wholesome aromatic food. Intriguing Zulu showmanship of stick fighting, rituals and customs, Nguni cattle, the local Sangoma and quaint Zulu beehive huts will be the amazing information and sights you can see and hear about.

Day 14 : 2 nights, Babanango Valley Lodge, Natal Battlefields, Dinner Bed & Breakfast
Travel inland to the Natal Battlefields for a lovely stay in Babanango Valley Lodge. The Natal Battlefields in the interior is the collective name for the sites of the bloody conflicts of the Anglo-Zulu and Anglo-Boer wars. Your host, a registered guide, can take you on a fascinating tour to appreciate such sites as Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift. Babanango Valley lodge is surrounded by mountains with a magnificent view down the valley. Children are welcome at Babanango Valley Lodge and they have a little “kiddies corner” in the garden. The farmyard is also a favourite with the children with the milking of cows, and pigs, sheep, geese and horse on site.

Day 16 : Return rental car to Durban
This morning you will drive back to Durban Airport where you return your rental car.
