South Africa Family Adventure

Day 1 - Arrive in Cape Town. Stay 4 nights
Cape Town is one of the most beautifully situated cities in the world. Cradled by Table Mountain, it has immense charm and historical interest whilst its unique cultural blend; part African, part European and part Asian, makes for a cosmopolitan dining experience.
Take the cable car or walk up Table Mountain, visit the colourful Malay quarter or meander through the wonderful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Browse through the vibrant Greenmarket Square, head out to Robben Island by boat or simply relax on the beach. When you want to range further, the Cape Peninsula offers one of the finest coastal drives in Africa to the Cape of Good Hope. Here you might see whales breeching just off the bay or quirky penguins on Boulder’s beach.

Camps Bay Resort or Waterfront Village is a concept which works well for families. These are a selection of one, two and three bedroom apartments either in the V&A Waterfront or at Camps Bay within walking distance of the beach. It gives families some more space to spread out (and perhaps more packing at the end!) and also the fully equipped kitchens allow you to cater for easy lunches or suppers if you want a break from restaurant food. It is offered on a Room Only Basis though we can book it to include breakfast at a local restaurant if you prefer (Camps Bay only).
Room Only
Accommodation: Camps Bay or Waterfront Village

Day 5 - Fly to Durban. Drive to Drakensberg for 3 nights
Today you return your rental car at Cape Town Airport in time for your mid morning flight to Durban. On arrival in Durban, you collect another rental car and drive inland to the Drakensberg Mountains. The Drakensberg was so named after the jagged teeth of the mythical beast that locals believe must surely inhabit such an awesome mountain range. The "berg" offers everything, from serious hiking to gentle rambles beside crystal streams and through wooded glades.

Cathedral Peak Hotel is a classic mountain resort hotel within a World Heritage Site, with stunning panoramic views. Thatched rondavels, spacious deluxe rooms, family rooms and executive suites each with TV and telephone. Unmatched sporting facilities include two pools (one heated), children's paddling pool, tennis, squash, gym and beauty therapist, steam bath, 9 hole golf course, horse riding, trout fishing, bowls, 10m climbing tower, children's playground and famed daily guided mountain walks. Scenic helicopter flights offer a unique opportunity to view the Drakensberg from the air. (3½ hours, 290km)
Dinner, Bed & Breakfast.
Accommodation: Cathedral Peak Hotel

Day 8 Head to Indian Ocean for 3 nights
Today you leave the mountains and head to the ‘Dolphin Coast’ north of Durban. This area is made for swimming, relaxing and enjoying alfresco seafood cuisine. It's famous for its bottle-nosed dolphins - take a boat cruise to view them at close range. Here you are away from the bustle of the city of Durban and yet easily within reach of its attractions such as the lush botanical gardens and enticing Indian spice markets. (40 minutes drive). Children will love visiting the Oceanarium at UShaka or visiting the Cultural villages in the nearby Valley of 1000 Hills.

You stay at Zimbali Lodge near the friendly resort of Ballito. Zimbali Lodge is easily the most luxurious beach resort hotel on the Dolphin coast, an elegant and sophisticated hideaway only 40 minutes north of Durban. Set in a serene coastal forest reserve of 300 ha, it is natural sub-tropical paradise and home to forest animals and plentiful bird life.
Bed & Breakfast.

Day 11 - On Safari in the Hluhluwe area, 3 nights
Today you drive north to Zululand for your three night stay at the Hluhluwe River Lodge. Hluhluwe Game Reserve is the best known of several good game parks in Zululand. It is particularly famed for its concentrations of rare white rhino, as well as elephant, black rhino, buffalo and predators.
Hluhluwe River Lodge overlooks the Hluhluwe floodplain and borders the St Lucia Wetlands. Tucked away in an indigenous forest setting, the chalets are supremely comfortable with air-conditioning, minibar and wooden sun decks.
The main lodge has an expansive terrace, for alfresco dining, and commands a spectacular view of the Hluhluwe river floodplain. Popular activities include game drives to Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve and bird watching boat trips on the river. For adventure seekers there is quad biking, horse-riding and mountain bike trails on offer. Between activities you can take a self-guided walk or relax and soak up the sun at the secluded pool.
