Camping / Victoria Falls Botswana TrilogyAs conducted from Maun Airport to Kasane
Ten roomy and stylish canvas tents, with ensuite bathrooms and indoor and outdoor showers (for those who want to feel the Kalahari breeze on their skin), have been fashioned in classical style and are set into a palm grove, creating an oasis of civilization in what can be the harshest of environments. Guests can enjoy spectacular vistas from the privacy of their own verandas. During the wet season the landscape transforms. Clouds of flamingo and other migratory birds descend from the skies to decorate the watery grasslands. Herds of zebra and wildebeest materialise, drawn by the lush grass, and for several months, the desert is teeming with game and predators. The guides at Jack's Camp are an erudite breed. Often graduate students, who combine research with guiding. They team up with a small group of San Bushmen to guide guests on morning walks and game drives. Guests can also enjoy a relic of one of the worlds largest super-lakes, the Makgadikgadi. This beautiful feature dried up thousands of years ago as a result of the continued shifting of the earths crust. Venturing far into the centre of the Makgadikgadi, on quad bikes, guests are able to explore remote archaeological sites, periodically discovering never before documented fossil beds of extinct giant zebra and hippo. A safari to Jack's Camp is also a complete desert experience focusing on species unique to the area such as aardvark, gemsbok and springbok. It is the only place where guests are virtually guaranteed to see the rare and elusive brown hyena and be able to walk through the Kalahari with a gang of habituated, but wild, meerkats!
Xudum Delta Lodge nestles on the banks of a lagoon on
a permanent channel of the Okavango Delta. Discreet suites boast sweeping
views of the intricate network of water that fuels the ever-changing ecosystems
of this lush inland delta. Twice-daily expeditions by open 4x4 safari
vehicles, mekoro or power boats, as well as walking safaris, offers guests
myriad opportunities to explore and discover the abundant wildlife by
land or water. Situated in a private concession, a maximum of 18 guests
can experience intimate encounters with a magnificent variety of animal
and bird life, including such elusive species as Pels fishing owl
and the seldom seen roan antelope. Exceptionally large herds of buffalo,
often numbering up to 200 individuals from young calves to splendidly-horned
bulls, are frequently encountered in the area.
